Marriage is not by force. But weekly, the nuptial production line churns out an endless torrent of superficial, accidental marriages, which had no business being contracted in the first place.
And, let the reader note, this article is not against marriage but against the erroneous and unfortunately, timeless philosophies surrounding the institution.Enjoy.
So, the other day, I was watching The Real on BET and on set walked Deddeh Howard, a beautiful black model I have been following on Social Media since the start of the year. She spoke to the hosts about her Black Mirror project and its essence. she had been rejected repeatedly by modelling agencies because she was so dark skinned. She affirmed that the agencies acknowledged her beauty but also stated that they had enough black models, which in fact were just a couple.
In collaboration with her partner, she decided to do something about it by recreating some of the biggest AD campaigns featuring white supermodels, with herself striking the exact same post in same clothes. For me, this was incredibly inspiring, as she sought to change the narrative by acting instead of complaining. Today, she’s on BBC, Good Morning America and other stations to discuss the issue. With her permission, I share her blog post and images on the project.
The Oyinsans are multi-talented family whom I had observed for years (especially Titi, been stalking her since Unilag Days) . Their story remains an inspiration to many of us, its the journey one of a family’s unity in taking the future together. And what better time to interview a family than Christmas huh?! Pls enjoy.

I recently saw the ‘’Intern’ movie and I liked it. Why? It subtly underscores some issues and themes I’ve been obsessed with over the years: Age and Experience, Life/Career Transition, Entrepreneurship, Image, Attitude, Modern day realities and the opportunities therein, how the today’s realities affect the family and the list goes on. In fact, I’m watching the movie as as I type, pausing repeatedly so I can document my random but insightful thoughts inspired by the movie.
First of all, I do not think we maximize the existence of the elderly among us, at all. They carry with them, decades upon decades of priceless wisdom and truckloads of hindsight. Many things they see us stumble through, they have managed through themselves long ago. They must find it pretty amusing watching these young people fascinated with the devices in their hands, who think stuff that happened decades ago, do not apply to them. We forget that everything that is, has happened before, one way or another, the level of sophistication is just what’s different. Three Yoruba proverbs make this point; they are translated below.
Not too long ago we listed the white shirt as one of the ladies Wardrobe essentials. This post is on how to maximise it beyond wearing it on work pants.
